Tackle the legendary Surrey 3 Peaks, a demanding 35.5km loop that serves as one of the ultimate tests for endurance runners in South East England. Starting from Westhumble, the route takes you on an exhilarating journey through the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, featuring over 800m of vertical gain. You will navigate a diverse mix of terrain, from the sharp, iconic zig-zags of Box Hill to the technical, root-filled woodland trails leading up to Holmbury Hill and Leith Hill. With a blend of paved sections and rugged, hilly off-road tracks, this course requires strategic pacing and mental grit to conquer the three distinct climbs and the rolling ridgelines that connect them.
Steeped in history and natural splendor, the Surrey Hills have long been a sanctuary for outdoor enthusiasts. As you traverse the North Downs Way and the Greensand Way, you are running through landscapes shaped by centuries of English heritage, including the Victorian-era Leith Hill Tower which marks the highest point in South East England. The area became famous globally during the 2012 Olympic cycling road race, but for local trail runners, the real magic lies in the deep-cut "holloways" and the expansive views over the Weald. Between the climbs, keep an eye out for local wildlife and the historic pillboxes that dot the landscape, offering a unique glimpse into the region's wartime defense history.
