Route Overview & Local Insights

Tucked away in the Surrey Hills AONB, this 4.8km loop around Hascombe Hill offers a quintessential English trail running experience. Starting from the heart of the village, you'll tackle a 100m ascent that kicks off with a steady climb along the historic Greensand Way. The terrain is characterized by winding woodland paths that provide excellent shade in summer and a technical, muddy challenge during the wetter months. With a difficulty rating of 3 for its hilly profile, it is an ideal route for runners looking to build glute strength and improve their trail handling skills without committing to a long-distance haul.

Hascombe is steeped in history, and runners will pass through an area known for its Iron Age hillfort, which once commanded views over the Weald. The forest floor here is a carpet of bluebells in late spring, making it one of the most picturesque spots in Surrey for a morning session. After navigating the rugged southern loop of the hill, many local runners end their session across from the start point at the 16th-century White Horse pub, a well-known haunt for the local outdoors community. The mix of ancient bridleways and scenic vistas makes this short circuit feel much deeper in the wilderness than its mileage suggests.
