Experience the best of Surrey’s waterside charm on this 6.3km loop through Weybridge and the River Wey Navigation. With a negligible 11m of ascent, this route is exceptionally flat and fast, making it ideal for runners looking to maintain a steady tempo or enjoy a relaxed recovery session. Approximately 45% of the course is paved, while the remainder takes you onto well-maintained off-road paths and towpaths that hug the water’s edge. Starting near the town's green spaces, you'll transition into a peaceful riverside stretch where the rhythm of the water replaces the hum of the town. Keep in mind there is a level crossing between checkpoints 2 and 3, providing a brief moment to catch your breath before finishing your circuit near Weybridge station.
The River Wey Navigation holds a special place in British history, being one of the first rivers in the UK to be made navigable back in the 17th century. As you run past the locks and narrowboats, you are traversing a corridor of industrial heritage that once connected Guildford to the Thames at Weybridge. The area is a haven for local biodiversity; don't be surprised to spot grey herons or kingfishers darting along the banks. This specific route captures the essence of the "Stockbroker Belt" green lung, offering a perfect blend of manicured suburban trails and the rugged, timeless feel of the Wey navigation—a favorite escape for the local Walton and Weybridge running community.
