Route Overview & Local Insights

The Hurst Green & Limpsfield Common Loop offers a fantastic 6.2km blend of suburban charm and rugged Surrey countryside. Characterized by its "SL" course type, this route starts with a 70% paved surface through residential streets before transitioning into the heart of the Greensand Way. Runners will face a steady, hilly climb through woodland trails that test the lungs but reward with scenic open heathland at the summit. With roughly 51m of ascent, it is an engaging mixed-terrain run that transitions from asphalt to grassy trails, making it a perfect choice for those looking to add some elevation and variety to their weekly training schedule.

Steeped in local heritage, this area sits on the historic Greensand Ridge, a geological formation that provides some of the best trail running in the southeast of England. Limpsfield Common itself has been protected for over a century, originally serving as common land for grazing, and today remains a sanctuary for local wildlife. As you descend via Paines Hill, you are following paths that have connected these Surrey hamlets for generations. Locals know that the views from the high point of the common are particularly stunning during the golden hour, providing a sense of secluded wildness just a stone's throw from the village of Hurst Green.
