This 6.4km loop offers a refreshing blend of manicured parkland and steady suburban pathways through Epsom and Ewell. With a negligible 10m ascent, this is a pancake-flat route ideal for runners looking to maintain a consistent tempo or tackle a recovery run. You’ll spend about half your time on paved surfaces as you transition from the wide-open greens of Nonsuch Park up toward North Cheam via London Road, returning through the quiet corridors of Malden Road and Cheam Recreation Ground. The terrain is forgiving, making it a local favorite for those dodging the more aggressive hills of the nearby North Downs.
Deeply rooted in Tudor history, the area was once the site of King Henry VIII’s most ambitious palace, "Nonsuch," named because there was "none such" like it in the world. While the original palace is long gone, the sprawling park remains a magnificent backdrop for runners, featuring an elegant 18th-century mansion and ancient woodland. Running here feels like circling a piece of royal heritage; as you transition into North Cheam, you move from 16th-century hunting grounds to a classic South London suburb. It’s a route that captures the unique character of the Surrey-London border, offering plenty of shade in the park and wide pavements for a safe, rhythmic stride.
