This 7.1km loop offers a refreshing escape through the green corridors of Ipswich, perfect for runners seeking a mix of road and scenic riverside trails. Starting on Hadleigh Road, the route transitions onto the tranquil Church Lane before joining the River Gipping towpath. With a negligible 10m ascent, this is a pancake-flat course ideal for tempo sessions or a steady recovery run. You’ll experience a blend of approximately 40% paved surfaces and natural riverbank paths, providing a varied but accessible terrain that showcases the softer side of Suffolk’s county town.
Known locally as the "Chantry Cut," this area is steeped in Ipswich’s industrial and natural heritage. As you navigate the River Gipping, you are running alongside a waterway that was once a vital trade artery for the town's flour mills and factories. Today, it serves as a vital wildlife corridor where lucky runners might spot kingfishers or grey herons. The route skirts the edge of Chantry Park—the town's largest public park—and offers a sense of peaceful seclusion despite being just a stone's throw from the bustling town centre and the historic Portman Road area.
