The Sheffield Trail Half Marathon is a spectacular 21.6km loop that perfectly encapsulates why Sheffield is known as the "Outdoor City." Starting in the vibrant Endcliffe Park, this route transitions seamlessly from paved city paths to rugged gritstone trails. With a steady 410m ascent, you’ll follow the serene Porter Brook before tackling the climb toward Ox Stone. The undisputed highlight is the technical traverse along Burbage Edge, offering sweeping panoramic views of the Peak District’s dramatic landscape. The return journey is predominantly downhill on well-maintained tracks, providing a fast and rewarding finish back into the heart of the city.
Rich in industrial heritage and natural beauty, the Porter Valley has been a vital part of Sheffield’s history since the 18th century, once powering numerous water wheels for the local steel industry. As you run past the historic Shepherd Wheel and forge dams, you are retracing the footsteps of the workers who shaped this region. Today, these green corridors serve as the gateway to the Peak District National Park. Running through the ancient woodlands of Limb Valley and across the high moors of Upper Burbage offers a unique sense of escapism just miles from the urban center, making this route a favorite for local fell runners and trail enthusiasts alike.
