The Crewkerne Round offers a delightful 6.4km loop that perfectly captures the undulating beauty of the South Somerset landscape. Transitioning between quiet residential lanes and scenic outer roads, this fully paved route provides a consistent surface underfoot, making it an excellent choice for a tempo run or a steady recovery session. With a modest 67m of ascent, you will encounter the characteristic "Somerset rollers"—gentle climbs that offer just enough elevation to test your lungs without being overwhelming. Runners can expect wide-open views of the surrounding hills as they navigate the clockwise circuit, enjoying the mixture of fresh country air and the historic charm of the town's outskirts.
Steeped in history, Crewkerne was once a bustling center for the textile industry, famous for producing sails used by the Royal Navy at the Battle of Trafalgar. While you run, you'll pass through an area that still reflects its market town heritage, with golden Hamstone buildings dotting the landscape. This particular route is a favorite among the local Crewkerne Running Club, providing a safe and accessible way to experience the transition from town to country. After finishing your loop, a visit to the town center offers plenty of local cafes to refuel with a traditional Somerset cider or a post-run coffee in the shadow of the impressive St Bartholomew’s Church.
