Embark on a rugged 10.2km loop through the heart of the Shropshire Hills, starting from the quiet village of Cleeton. This "SL" category course is a true fell runner's delight, offering a challenging 318m of ascent with significant portions of the trail sitting above the 500m contour line. Expect a varied mix of terrain where roughly 30% is paved road, giving way to wild, open moorland and technical single-track as you circle anti-clockwise around Callowgate and Magpie Hill. The climb up Titterstone Clee is the undisputed highlight, providing a steady burn that rewards you with panoramic views across the Teme Valley and into the Welsh borders, though the exposed nature of the summit means you should always carry a light shell for shifting weather.
Titterstone Clee Hill is a site steeped in both ancient history and industrial heritage, making it one of the most distinctive landmarks in England. As you navigate the rocky paths, you’ll pass through a landscape shaped by Iron Age hillforts and centuries of stone quarrying, which give the hill its unique, almost lunar-like appearance. The area is also famous for its Cold War-era radar domes, which serve as useful navigation markers for local runners. This part of Shropshire remains one of the county's best-kept secrets, offering a sense of isolation and wildness that is hard to find elsewhere in the Midlands. After your run, keep an eye out for the local Herdwick sheep that graze these commons, often found sheltering among the remnants of the old bell pits.
This course has sections close to or above 500m. Weather conditions can change at short notice, so plan accordingly.
