Starting from the Emmer Green Recreation Ground, this 4.8km loop offers a fantastic blend of suburban charm and steady effort through one of Reading’s most desirable residential pockets. While the route is 100% paved, don't let the "pavement" label fool you—with 32m of ascent, you’ll encounter some characteristic Caversham "rollers" that provide a great cardiovascular workout. The course takes you around the perimeter of Caversham Park and the local cemetery, offering wide footpaths and a sense of openness that is perfect for a brisk 5k training effort or a steady recovery run away from the busier town center traffic.
Caversham has a distinct identity north of the River Thames, and this route explores the higher ground of Emmer Green, which historically served as an agricultural hamlet long before Reading's Victorian expansion. As you run past Caversham Park, you are skirting the edges of a site with deep historical roots, once home to a grand mansion that served as a BBC monitoring station during WWII. Today, the area is a favorite for local runners who appreciate the cleaner air and quieter streets of the northern heights, making it a staple circuit for those looking to conquer the famous North Reading hills.
