This 9.3km loop offers a refreshing blend of open agricultural landscapes and well-maintained parkland, making it a favorite for Nottinghamshire runners seeking a mix of surfaces. Starting with an anticlockwise sweep through the Ruddington field boundaries, you’ll encounter soft-surface tracks that transition into the more defined paths of Rushcliffe Country Park. While the route is impressively flat with zero meters of ascent, the terrain provides its own challenge; the field sections can become heavy and muddy during the winter months, so multi-terrain or trail shoes are highly recommended if there has been recent rain.
Ruddington itself is a village steeped in industrial heritage, once famous for its framework knitting, and this route takes you through the very heart of the land that supported its rural economy. Rushcliffe Country Park, which forms the second half of your run, is a multi-award-winning green space reclaimed from the former site of the Ruddington Ordnance Depot. As you cruise through the park’s wildflower meadows and past the lake, you are running over history that dates back to WWII. It is an ideal spot for a sustained tempo effort or a social weekend long run, often bustling with local club runners and parkrunners.
