Experience the tranquil beauty of the Northumberland coast on this 7.2km loop starting from the bustling harbor town of Amble. This route offers a fantastic mix of terrain, beginning with a smooth, flat stretch along the River Coquet estuary on a friendly multi-use path. As you head inland through Maudlin and past New Barns farm, the ground transitions into well-maintained tracks and footpaths, offering a soft-surface reprieve for your joints. With a negligible ascent of just 24 meters, it is an ideal choice for runners looking for a steady tempo run or a scenic recovery jog without the challenge of steep inclines.
Known locally as "The Friendliest Port," Amble provides a rich historical backdrop to your run. As you navigate the estuary, keep an eye out for the diverse birdlife that calls this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty home, with Warkworth Castle often visible in the distance. The section passing New Barns farm offers a glimpse into the traditional agricultural heritage of the region before the route winds back through the charming town streets. After finishing your 7.2km circuit, you’ll find yourself perfectly placed near the harbor road, where the fresh sea air and local coffee spots offer the quintessential North East England finish.
