This 11.6km loop offers a refreshing escape along the Lincolnshire coastline, starting from the iconic Cleethorpes promenade and heading south into the wilder landscapes of the Humberston Fitties. The terrain is exceptionally flat, making it an ideal choice for runners looking to maintain a steady tempo or those training for a half-marathon PB. You’ll experience a mix of paved coastal paths and rugged marshland trails, providing a sensory transition from the bustling seaside resort to the tranquil, windswept beauty of the Tetney Marshes. With zero meters of ascent, the only challenge you’re likely to face is the North Sea breeze on the return leg past the sprawling inland wind farm.
Steeped in local character, the Humberston Fitties is one of the last remaining "plotlands" in the UK, where quirky, self-built vintage chalets have stood for decades, reflecting a unique piece of British holiday history. As you move toward the Tetney Marshes, you enter a vital RSPB nature reserve, home to coastal birds like little terns and marsh harriers. This area was historically significant for salt production and later for coastal defense, but today it serves as a peaceful sanctuary for runners and wildlife alike. Whether you're chasing a fast time or soaking in the maritime heritage, this route captures the spirit of the Humber Estuary’s diverse landscape.
