This 5.5km out-and-back coastal run offers a refreshing blast of North Sea air on a completely flat, sand-dusted course. Starting at the iconic Britannia Pier, you'll head north along the spacious promenade toward the North Denes dunes. The terrain is entirely level, making it perfect for tempo sessions or recovery runs where you want to maintain a consistent cadence without the interference of elevation. As you leave the bustling Golden Mile behind, the path opens up into a more rugged, natural landscape, providing stunning views of the Norfolk coastline and the sprawling marram grass dunes that line the shore.
Great Yarmouth has been a premier seaside destination since the Victorian era, and running this route allows you to experience two distinct sides of its history. The bustling southern end represents the classic British "Golden Mile" with its historic piers and entertainment, while the North Denes area is a legally protected Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). These dunes are home to one of the UK’s most important colonies of Little Terns during the summer months. Runners should keep an eye out for the local grey seal population often seen bobbing in the surf just offshore, especially near the more secluded northern stretches of the route.
