Experience the rugged beauty of the Merseyside coastline on this 7.2km loop through Sefton’s striking northern dunes. Starting from the Crosby Beach car park, this flat, predominantly paved route (80%) offers an accessible yet invigorating run for athletes of all levels. You’ll head north along the coastal path toward Hightown, enjoying expansive views of the Irish Sea and the distinctive dune topography. With zero elevation gain, it’s a perfect course for maintaining a steady tempo or practicing speed work, while the mix of coastal paths and quiet road sections provides just enough variety to keep your gait fresh.
This area is steeped in local charm and maritime history, most famous for hosting Anthony Gormley’s iconic 'Another Place' art installation. As you run, keep an eye out for the 100 cast-iron figures staring out to sea, which shift in appearance depending on the tide. This stretch of the Sefton Coast is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest, home to rare natterjack toads and sand lizards. The path toward Hightown follows the historic Lancashire coastal trade routes, offering a sense of solitude and natural wonder that contrasts beautifully with the nearby urban hubs of Liverpool and Southport.
