Clocking in at precisely 11km, this out-and-back route offers a truly unique coastal running experience along the narrow curve of Spurn Point. Starting from the Spurn Discovery Centre, runners will enjoy a pancake-flat trajectory with 0m of elevation gain, making it an ideal choice for tempo sessions or a steady recovery run. The terrain is roughly 85% paved, though the shifting sands and North Sea breezes add a rugged, wild element to the run. As you head toward the tip of this iconic peninsula, you’ll be flanked by the Humber Estuary on one side and the North Sea on the other, providing panoramic water views that are unmatched in East Yorkshire.
Spurn Head is often referred to as Yorkshire's "lands end," a dynamic nature reserve managed by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. Steeped in maritime and military history, runners will pass remnants of the peninsula’s past, including old defensive batteries and the striking black-and-white Spurn Lighthouse. The area is a world-renowned hotspot for migratory birds, so keep an eye out for diverse avian life as you navigate the "washover"—the section where the sea breached the land in 2013. Local runners know to check the tide times and wind direction before heading out, as the exposure at Easington can turn a 5k headwind into a real test of grit on the return leg.
