Route Overview & Local Insights

If you are looking for a fast, accessible effort through the heart of East Lindsey, this 7.6km loop along the River Lud and the Louth Navigation is an ideal choice. With only 10 meters of total ascent, this route is exceptionally flat, making it a favorite for speed work or a steady recovery run. The terrain is a balanced mix of paved paths through town (roughly 55%) and soft, scenic trails across open fields. Runners will enjoy the rhythmic flow of the water as they navigate the towpaths, transitioning from the quiet greenery of the Lincolnshire countryside into the charming urban edges of Louth.

Louth is often referred to as the "Capital of the Wolds," and this route offers a unique perspective on its industrial heritage. The Louth Navigation, which you'll follow for a significant portion of the run, was an 18th-century canal system that once connected this market town to the sea at Tetney Haven. As you loop back toward town, keep an eye out for the soaring spire of St James' Church—the tallest parish church spire in England—which serves as a perfect landmark for your return leg. The area is steeped in rural history, providing a peaceful backdrop that feels a world away from the bustle of larger UK cities.
