Experience the perfect blend of lakeside serenity and woodland challenge on this 7.4km loop through Lever Park. Starting with a flat, rhythmic stretch through dense treelines and along the shimmering banks of the reservoir, runners can find their stride before tackling a steady 3km ascent. With an elevation gain of 141m, this hilly course transitions from smooth woodland floor to more rugged trails as you climb toward the iconic Lever’s Bridge. The descent is a rewarding technical cruise through leafy glades, offering a soft-surface finish that is kind to the legs while keeping your heart rate elevated on the undulating Lancashire terrain.
Lever Park is steeped in local heritage, originally gifted to the people of Bolton by Lord Leverhulme, the founder of Unilever. As you navigate the trails around Rivington, you are running through a landscape designed to mimic a traditional English deer park, complete with architectural "follies" and historical landmarks hidden among the trees. The area serves as the gateway to the West Pennine Moors, offering runners a sense of vast wilderness just a short distance from Chorley. Keep an eye out for the Rivington Pike looming in the distance, a landmark that has guided local travelers and athletes for centuries.
