This 5.0km out-and-back route offers a refreshingly flat and serene escape through the heart of Buckshaw Village. Starting from Old Warden Avenue, runners will navigate a mix of well-maintained pavement and natural riverside paths that parallel the gentle flow of the River Lostock. With an almost negligible ascent of just 12 meters, it is an ideal choice for a tempo session, a recovery jog, or a PB attempt. The turnaround point at Town Brow provides a natural break before heading back, offering a scenic blend of modern suburban design and tucked-away green corridors that make this one of the most popular local segments for daily training.
Buckshaw Village itself is a fascinating setting for a run, standing on the historic site of the former ROF Chorley, a massive munitions factory during World War II. Today, the area has been transformed into one of the largest brownfield regeneration projects in the UK, but the River Lostock remains a constant, ancient boundary. As you run alongside the water, look out for local wildlife including kingfishers and herons that frequent the banks. The trail transitions from the organized layout of the village into a more rustic, pastoral landscape near Town Brow, giving runners a sense of Chorley’s rural heritage just minutes away from the bustling residential hubs.
