This 6.8km loop through Hosey Common offers a quintessential Kentish trail running experience, blending dense woodland singletrack with wide, sweeping grassy field paths. With a moderate 116m of ascent, the route provides enough elevation change to keep the heart rate up—especially on the "hilly" sections—without being overwhelming for intermediate runners. The terrain is predominantly unpaved, so expect a soft, natural surface that changes beautifully with the seasons; however, be prepared for some muddy patches during the wetter winter months. It is an ideal distance for a mid-week effort or a spirited weekend trail session in the fresh air of the North Downs.
Located just south of the historic town of Westerham, Hosey Common is a site steeped in both natural beauty and local history. As you navigate the clockwise loop, you are running through land that was once heavily utilized for its Kentish ragstone, and the undulating topography is often a result of ancient quarrying. The area is famously associated with Sir Winston Churchill, whose family home, Chartwell, sits just a stone's throw from these trails. After your run, it is a local tradition to head into Westerham’s charming town square to refuel at one of the many independent cafes, enjoying the same scenic backdrop that has inspired artists and statesmen for centuries.
