This 5.1km loop offers a quintessential Chiltern Hills running experience, blending steady climbs with rewarding descents through Dacorum’s lush landscapes. Starting in the historic market town of Tring, the route transitions quickly from paved paths to the rolling, hilled terrain of Park Wood. With approximately 79m of ascent, you’ll feel the burn on the sections near Oddy Hill, but the firm footing—mostly paved or well-compacted trails—makes it an accessible choice for runners looking to transition from road to light trail. Running clockwise, you'll weave through a series of ancient woodlands including Bull’s Wood and Bishop’s Wood, providing excellent canopy cover and a refreshing natural soundtrack for your midweek miles or weekend recovery run.
Tring Park is one of the most significant ecological sites in Hertfordshire, once forming part of the vast estate owned by the Rothschild family. As you head back into town, you are running through history; the "Ridgeway" influence is felt here, and the area is managed by the Woodland Trust to preserve its rare chalk grassland habitat. Keep an eye out for the local herd of cattle often grazing in the park, and look skyward for Red Kites, which are a constant companion for runners in this part of England. After your loop, the local Tring high street offers plenty of independent cafes where you can refuel—a perfect way to cap off a beautiful run through the heart of the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
