Route Overview & Local Insights

Experience the tranquil beauty of the Hampshire coastline on this 6.9km out-and-back route from Warsash to Lower Swanwick. Starting at the Passage Lane Car Park, runners will enjoy a remarkably flat course with 0m of elevation gain, making it an ideal choice for a tempo session or a relaxed recovery run. The terrain is predominantly paved for 5km, transitioning into well-maintained gravel paths that hug the shoreline. As you head north, expect sweeping views of the River Hamble, where the refreshing sea breeze and the sight of bobbing masts provide a motivating backdrop for your miles. The untimed section at the turnaround in Lower Swanwick is a thoughtful inclusion, allowing you to catch your breath or grab a quick drink before heading back south.

Warsash is steeped in maritime heritage, most famously serving as a departure point for the D-Day landings in 1944. As you run along Bunny Meadows, you are traversing a segment of the Solent Way, an area rich in biodiversity and popular with local birdwatchers. The Hamble River itself has been a hub for shipbuilding and yachting for centuries, and the local pubs near the start and finish lines, such as the Rising Sun, are legendary gathering spots for the village's sailing and running communities. This route captures the quintessential charm of the English coast, blending natural marshland beauty with a storied nautical history that makes every kilometer feel like a journey through time.
