Enjoy a refreshing 5.5km loop through the tranquil scenery of Havant Thicket, a perfect escape for runners seeking soft, off-road terrain. Starting and finishing at Swanmore Road, this clockwise circuit is almost entirely flat with just 23 meters of ascent, making it an accessible choice for recovery runs or those looking to maintain a steady tempo without the interference of steep inclines. The forest tracks offer a natural, unpaved surface that is kind to the joints, shaded by a canopy of broadleaf trees and conifers that provide plenty of shelter from the elements year-round.
Havant Thicket is steeped in local history, once forming a significant part of the ancient Forest of Bere, a royal hunting ground that stretched across South East Hampshire. Today, the area is managed by Forestry England and is a haven for local biodiversity, including deer and various bird species. As you navigate the loop, you’ll be running through a landscape that is currently at the heart of local conservation and infrastructure efforts, with the nearby reservoir project set to transform the surrounding environment while preserving the essential woodland character that local runners have cherished for generations.
