Route Overview & Local Insights

This 6.3km loop offers a refreshing escape through Salford’s greenest corridors, perfectly blending compacted woodland trails and smooth canal-side paths. With a gentle ascent of just 22 meters, it is an accessible route for runners looking for a flat, steady effort without the interruption of heavy traffic. Moving from Worsley’s historic center, you’ll navigate the serene perimeter of Old Warke Dam and the shaded canopies of Worsley Woods. The second half of the run transitions onto the Roe Green Loopline—a former railway line that provides a wide, cushioned surface ideal for picking up the pace before a scenic finish along the iconic orange-tinted waters of the Bridgewater Canal.

Worsley is steeped in industrial heritage, famously known as the site where the canal era began in England. As you run alongside the Bridgewater Canal, you might notice its unique ochre color, a result of iron ore runoff from the old underground brick mines. The area was transformed by the 3rd Duke of Bridgewater in the 18th century, and today, the village’s black-and-white timbered architecture provides a stunning, high-contrast backdrop for your warm-up or cool-down. Running here feels like traveling through a living museum, where the "Delph" (the canal basin) serves as a quiet reminder of the engineering feats that once powered the North West.
