This 5.3km loop offers a quintessential Richmond Park running experience, striking a perfect balance between London’s natural beauty and a solid physical challenge. As a "hilly" course with 41 meters of ascent, you'll encounter gentle, rolling undulations that keep your heart rate elevated and your legs working. The terrain is roughly 20% paved, meaning you’ll spend plenty of time on the park’s famous gravel paths and well-trodden trails. It’s a fantastic distance for those looking to push beyond a standard 5k while taking in the expansive views of the Tamsin Trail and the southern reaches of the Royal Park.
Richmond Park is steeped in history and is renowned as the largest of London's Royal Parks, serving as a haven for wildlife since the 17th century. As you run, keep an eye out for the resident herds of Red and Fallow deer that have roamed these grounds since the reign of Charles I. The area is a protected nature reserve and a Site of Special Scientific Interest, making it a favorite for local runners who appreciate the feeling of being miles away from the city grit. After your loop, many runners head to the nearby Pembroke Lodge for a well-earned coffee while enjoying one of the best panoramic views of the Thames Valley.
