Route Overview & Local Insights

Experience one of London’s most iconic running loops with this 11.2km circuit of Richmond Park. Primarily following the renowned Tamsin Trail in an anticlockwise direction, this route offers a fantastic mix of compacted gravel and dirt paths that are perfect for building endurance without the harsh impact of pavement. While the 52m of ascent is relatively gentle, the undulating terrain provides just enough of a challenge to keep things interesting. You'll navigate through wide-open grasslands, shaded woodland stretches, and occasional uneven sections that require a bit of nimble footwork, especially after a typical London downpour when the trails can get a little muddy.

Steeped in royal history, Richmond Park was originally created by Charles I in the 17th century as a deer park, and today it remains a National Nature Reserve of international importance. As you run, keep an eye out for the herds of Red and Fallow deer that roam freely across the landscape; they are a constant reminder of the park's wild heritage. Local runners often treat this loop as a rite of passage, offering a sense of escape from the city's hustle and bustle. Whether you are chasing a personal best on the trail or simply enjoying the vistas toward St. Paul’s Cathedral from King Henry’s Mound, this route captures the quintessential spirit of trail running in South West London.
