Starting from Shortlands, this 6.5km loop offers a refreshing blend of suburban charm and expansive green space as you head toward Ravensbourne. The terrain is a balanced mix, with 45% paved surfaces and the remainder following well-trodden park paths, making it an accessible run with a gentle 32m ascent that won't punish your legs. As you enter Beckenham Place Park for the anti-clockwise circuit, you'll experience one of South East London's finest trail running environments, featuring wide-open meadows and shaded woodland sections that provide plenty of variety for your morning miles or weekend long runs.
Beckenham Place Park is a local gem with a rich history, once serving as a private estate for the Cator family in the 18th century. Runners will pass the Mansion House, a stunning Grade II listed Georgian building that serves as the park's cultural heart. The area has undergone a massive transformation recently, moving away from its past as a golf course to become a biodiverse haven featuring a grand swimming lake and ancient woodland. On your way back toward Shortlands, you'll follow the footprint of the River Ravensbourne, a historic waterway that once powered local corn mills and now provides a tranquil corridor for residential London runners.
