Route Overview & Local Insights

This 8.1km circular loop offers a fast, flat, and fully paved journey around the distinctive peninsula of the Isle of Dogs. Starting and ending near the towering skyscrapers of Canary Wharf, the route takes you along the tranquil Thames Path North Extension and the Greenwich Meridian Trail. Runners can expect a seamless mix of riverfront views and modern architecture, with the path hugging the water for the majority of the circuit. While the elevation is virtually non-existent, making it perfect for tempo sessions or a steady 5-mile effort, do be mindful of the northern section passing Poplar Dock and Blackwall Basin, where the urban landscape becomes more intricate and foot traffic increases.

Steeped in maritime history, the Isle of Dogs was once the heart of the British Empire's shipping industry, home to the bustling West India Docks. As you run, you’ll transition from the Victorian-era engineering of the docks to the futuristic glass towers of the UK's financial hub. Look across the river to catch stunning views of the Cutty Sark and the Royal Naval College in Greenwich. The area has transformed from a post-industrial landscape into one of London’s most vibrant running corridors, offering a unique perspective on the city’s evolution from a global port to a modern metropolis.
