This 6.2km loop offers a perfectly flat, fast-paced escape through the heart of East London’s regenerating waterways. Starting near the vibrant hub of Fish Island, you’ll navigate a mix of historic canal towpaths and the modern, expansive walkways of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. With 90% paved surfaces and zero elevation gain, it’s an ideal route for tempo sessions or a recovery jog. Runners can expect a seamless transition from the industrial-chic aesthetics of Hackney Wick to the manicured greenery surrounding the London Stadium, though it is wise to check the local event calendar, as the park transforms into a bustling hive of activity on match days.
Beyond the asphalt, this route breathes the history of London’s industrial past and its Olympic future. Fish Island was once a dense network of factories and warehouses; today, it is one of the most concentrated artist colonies in Europe, visible in the world-class street art lining the Hertford Union Canal. As you circle back through the Olympic Park, you are running through a landscape that was transformed for the 2012 Games, turning former brownfields into a sprawling urban oasis. Local runners often congregate at the nearby breweries and coffee shops in Hackney Wick post-run, making this route as much a social experience as a physical one.
