This 8.7km loop offers a quintessential London running experience, combining the tranquil waters of the Regent's Canal with the grand, sweeping paths of Regent's Park. With a strictly pavement-based terrain and a virtually flat profile (only 10m of ascent), this route is perfect for tempo runs or those looking to find a steady rhythm away from the city's traffic. Runners will enjoy the unique contrast between the narrow, historic towpaths of the canal and the expansive, floral-lined Outer Circle, providing plenty of visual variety without a single hill to break your stride.
Steeped in royal history, Regent's Park was originally designed by John Nash in 1811 and was once a private hunting ground for King Henry VIII. As you navigate the loop, you’ll pass the world-famous London Zoo and catch glimpses of the elegant Regency villas that border the park. Local runners know that the canal section can get busy on weekends with narrow passing points near the houseboats, so aiming for an early morning session is the best way to enjoy the "Jewel in the Crown" of London's parks in relative peace.
This course includes one or more areas where higher levels of caution are recommended and your time is temporarily paused. We suggest reviewing the map in close up, where these sections are shown with dashed lines.
