This 6.9km loop offers one of North London’s most beloved running experiences, blending the well-maintained asphalt paths of Finsbury Park with the unique, leafy charm of the Parkland Walk. With only 33m of total ascent, it is a largely flat and fast route, perfect for those looking to find a steady rhythm. Runners will enjoy the open expanse of the park before transitioning onto the sheltered, tree-lined corridor of the South Section of the Parkland Walk. This nature reserve provides a soft, gravelly underfoot feel for much of its stretch to Stanhope Road, making it an excellent choice for avoiding the city's harder road surfaces while ticking off a midweek mileage goal.
Finsbury Park has been a landmark of London’s recreational life since it opened in 1869 to serve the local Victorian population. As you transition onto the Parkland Walk, you are actually running along history—this linear green space follows the trackbed of the former Great Northern Railway line that once connected Finsbury Park to Alexandria Palace. Keep an eye out for local street art and the infamous "Spriggan" sculpture lurking in an old railway arch. The area serves as a vital ecological corridor, so it's common to spot woodpeckers and owls early in the morning, making you forget you're just minutes away from the busy Seven Sisters Road.
