Experience one of Cheltenham’s most beloved traffic-free running corridors on this 4.8km out-and-back route along the Honeybourne Line. This entirely paved, flat path follows a former railway branch, making it an ideal choice for speed work, recovery runs, or runners looking for a gentle, accessible surface. Starting at Wyman's Brook and heading toward Cheltenham Spa Station, you’ll enjoy a green lung through the heart of town, passing over atmospheric bridges and through lush cuttings that feel worlds away from the urban bustle. With only 10m of total ascent, it’s a perfect PB-testing ground for those who prefer a consistent, level rhythm without the interruption of road crossings.
The Honeybourne Line is steeped in local transport history, originally built in the early 1900s as part of the Great Western Railway linking Cheltenham to Stratford-upon-Avon and honey-coloured Cotswold villages (hence the name). While the steam trains are long gone, the route has been reclaimed by the community as a vital urban greenway and outdoor art gallery, often featuring vibrant murals under the bridges. Running here offers a unique perspective of the Regency town, transitioning from the quiet residential pockets of the north to the lively transport hub of the station, all while surrounded by native trees that provide excellent shade during those warmer summer sessions.
