Route Overview & Local Insights

Enjoy a refreshing 6.6km coastal blast along the iconic Hastings and St Leonards seafront. This out-and-back route is remarkably flat, boasting a negligible 22m of ascent, making it an ideal choice for a tempo session or a relaxed recovery run. The entire course is 100% paved, following the wide promenade which offers runners plenty of space and uninterrupted views of the English Channel. Starting at the historic Old Bathing Pool site, you’ll head east toward Hastings city center, inhaling the salty air as you pass the colorful beach huts and the pier before turning back to complete the loop.

Running through this area is like moving through a living gallery of British seaside heritage. You’ll pass the modernist Bottle Alley—a lower deck walkway famous for its multicolored glass-embedded concrete walls—and see the majestic St Leonards architecture, envisioned by James Burton in the 19th century. As you reach the Hastings side, the silhouette of the ruins of Hastings Castle looks down from West Hill, reminding runners of the 1066 history that defines this coastline. On a clear day, the horizon is endless, and the local fishing fleet—the largest beach-launched fleet in Europe—adds a gritty, authentic charm to your surroundings.
