Prepare for a challenging but rewarding 14.9km hilly adventure that showcases the wilder side of Eastbourne’s coastline and countryside. This loop is a pure trail experience with zero paved sections, trading tarmac for the tactile grip of grass and gravel tracks. You’ll tackle a demanding 278m of vertical gain, starting with a rigorous ascent from Meads before opening up onto the expansive ridges towards Butts Brow. The route features a steep, quad-burning descent into the quaint village of Jevington followed by a gritty climb back out, making it an ideal session for runners looking to build technical trail strength and aerobic endurance in a stunning South Downs setting.
The Meads and Jevington area is steeped in Sussex history and serves as the gateway to the South Downs National Park. As you run through Jevington, you are passing through the ancestral home of the Banoffee pie—first created at The Hungry Monk restaurant in the village back in 1971. The undulating landscape is part of the iconic chalk Escarpment that has defined this region for millennia, offering panoramic views that stretch across the English Channel and the Pevensey Levels. Running here provides a sense of isolation and grandeur that belies its proximity to the Victorian seaside elegance of Eastbourne, offering a perfect blend of rugged nature and local heritage.
