This 5.5km out-and-back route offers one of the most scenic and accessible coastal runs in South Devon. Starting from Dawlish Station, the path is almost entirely flat and 90% paved, making it an ideal choice for runners looking for a fast tempo session or a relaxed recovery jog with sea views. You will track the dramatic coastline along the Sea Wall towards the Dawlish Warren Boathouse, enjoying the crisp ocean breeze and the rhythm of the waves. With zero elevation gain, it is a perfect route for beginners or those training for a personal best on flat terrain.
Running through Teignbridge, you are traversing a historic section of Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s famous Great Western Railway. The red sandstone cliffs provide a striking backdrop against the blue water of the Exe Estuary. Local runners often time their efforts with the tides; during high tide, the spray from the English Channel adds an extra refreshing element to the run. After finishing your effort at Dawlish Warren, a protected nature reserve, you can return to Dawlish town centre to spot the famous black swans that have called the local brook home since the early 20th century.
