This 10.1km out-and-back route offers a quintessential South West Coast Path experience, striking a perfect balance between technical trail and scenic beauty. Starting from the Bovisand Estate, you’ll navigate a predominantly narrow, undulating path that hugs the rugged Devon coastline. With 122m of ascent, the terrain is moderately challenging—expect some "hilly" sections that will test your glutes, but the reward is a panoramic view of the English Channel and the Great Mewstone. The surface is largely natural trail with some paved sections, making it ideal for runners looking to improve their footwork on coastal terrain while enjoying the fresh salt air.
Wembury is steeped in maritime history and is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). As you approach Wembury Bay, you’re entering a Marine Conservation Area world-renowned for its rock pools and diverse sea life. The route features a designated "untimed section" at the bay, perfectly positioned for you to catch your breath and perhaps grab a coffee or a quick snack at the local beach café. Historically, this stretch of coast was a vital lookout point for the Royal Navy; today, it serves as a peaceful sanctuary for local runners and hikers seeking escape from the nearby bustle of Plymouth.
