Push your limits on this spectacular 16.2km loop through the heart of the Peak District, featuring a challenging 320m ascent. The run kicks off with a demanding climb up to the iconic gritstone escarpment of Stanage Edge, where you’ll navigate rugged, windswept trails with expansive views across the Hope Valley. After traversing the edge, the route crosses onto the well-maintained, sweeping paths beneath Burbage Rocks, offering a slightly more rhythmic terrain for those looking to open up their stride. The adventure concludes with a technical descent into Grindleford through lush, ancient woodland, finishing with a hard-earned flat stretch along the serene River Derwent—a perfect cool-down after tackling the high-altitude sections above 500m.
Running through the Derbyshire Dales is a journey through England’s industrial and natural heritage. Stanage Edge is world-renowned among climbers and fell runners alike, famously serving as a filming location for 'Pride & Prejudice' and home to the historic Robin Hood’s Cave. This landscape was once a busy industrial hub for quarrying millstones, many of which still lie abandoned at the foot of the crags, slowly being reclaimed by the heather. As you transition from the exposed moorland of the High Peak down into the sheltered valley of Grindleford, you’ll experience the dramatic contrast in microclimates that makes the Peak District both beautiful and notoriously unpredictable for athletes.
