The INOV8 Wild Peaks Half Round is a formidable 52.6km ultra-distance challenge that starts and finishes at the heart of Bakewell. With a substantial 1,350m of vertical gain, this route provides a grueling yet rewarding mix of the Peak District’s distinct landscapes. Runners will transition from the rugged, gritstone edges of the Dark Peak to the rolling limestone dales of the White Peak. The terrain is varied—roughly 35% paved as you pass through valley villages, while the remainder features technical trails across Abney Moor, the iconic ascent of Win Hill, and the panoramic views of Monsal Head. It is a self-navigated test of endurance where you must check in at six specific Derbyshire Wildlife Trust nature reserves, offering a pure sense of adventure for any seasoned trail runner.
Bakewell serves as more than just a logistical hub; it is the ancient capital of the Peak District, famous for its medieval stone bridge and legendary puddings. As you traverse this route, you aren't just running through hills—you are running through history. You’ll pass through the "plague village" of Eyam and the traditional gritstone settlements of Hope and Bradwell. The inclusion of the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust reserves highlights the area's rich biodiversity, from rare orchids in the limestone ravines to bird life on the heather-clad moors. For local runners, this round is a celebration of conservation and the wild, industrial heritage of the Peak District National Park.
