Route Overview & Local Insights

The final push of the legendary Bob Graham Round, this 17.2km leg from Honister Pass to Keswick is a dramatic mix of technical fell running and a fast finish. With 644m of ascent, you’ll tackle the final three peaks—Dale Head, Hindscarth, and Robinson—where the terrain is quintessential Lake District: rugged, steep, and rewarding. Runners should be wary of the "Bad Step" on the descent of Robinson; while it offers a technical challenge, a softer line to the south is often preferred by those with tired legs. Once you drop off the fells effectively at Newlands, the final 10km transitions into a steady road section, demanding a mental shift as you push toward the historic finish line in the heart of town.

Ending at the iconic Moot Hall in Keswick, this route is steeped in mountain running history. For decades, the green doors of the hall have served as the official timing point for those attempting to join the Bob Graham Club, a feat that requires summiting 42 peaks within 24 hours. As you run through Allerdale, you are tracing the footsteps of fell running legends like Joss Naylor and Billy Bland. The transition from the high, wild fells of the North Western range back into the bustling market town of Keswick offers a unique perspective on the Cumbrian landscape, passing through peaceful hamlets like Little Town before the triumphant final stretch up the pedestrianized main street.
