The Abraham's Tea Round is an ultra-distance fell running challenge that demands respect and mountain craft. Spanning 46.8km with a staggering 3,027m of vertical gain, this clockwise circuit through Allerdale tackles some of the Lake District’s most iconic fells including Catbells, Grisedale Pike, and High Stile. Runners can expect technical singletrack, steep gravel climbs, and expansive ridgelines. Given that the terrain is only partially paved and stays above 500m for long stretches, you’ll experience true Lakeland exposure where the weather can shift in minutes, making sturdy footwear and solid navigation skills essential for conquering these famed peaks.
Steeped in local tradition, the Tea Round is named after George Abraham, a legendary pioneer of British rock climbing and landscape photography based in Keswick. Starting and finishing at George Fisher’s shop—the historic hub of Lake District adventure—this route connects the valleys and summits that have inspired mountain athletes for over a century. Running this loop isn't just a physical test; it's a journey through the heart of the Newlands Valley and the Buttermere fells, offering some of the most dramatic views in England. Whether you are chasing a fast time or enjoying a long day in the hills, you are following in the footsteps of the Victorian mountaineers who first mapped these rugged skylines.
