The Abraham's Tea Round Anticlockwise is a formidable 47km ultramarathon-style loop through the heart of Allerdale, boasting a staggering 3,031m of vertical gain. This Fell Runners Association (FRA) 'SL' graded course is a true test of endurance, taking runners across iconic Lake District summits including Catbells, High Stile, and Grisedale Pike. While roughly 15km of the route utilizes paved sections for transitions, the vast majority of your time will be spent on technical, hilly Lakeland terrain. Moving anticlockwise offers a unique perspective on the Newlands Valley, requiring sharp navigation across ten distinct checkpoints from the steep climb of Catbells to the final descent of Barrow.
Steeped in local Cumbrian heritage, the "Tea Round" takes its name from the historic connection to George Fisher’s famous outdoor store in Keswick. Traditionally, the challenge begins and ends at the shop doors, celebrating the spirit of fell running culture that has defined this region for over a century. Running through the Allerdale district, you’ll traverse ancient ridgelines that offer sweeping views of Derwentwater and Crummock Water, landscapes that inspired romantic poets and legendary mountaineers alike. This route isn't just a physical trial; it's a journey through the rugged heart of the Lake District National Park, where the weather can shift from calm valley floors to punishing high-altitude winds in minutes.
