Experience the rugged beauty of the Cornish coastline with this 5.9km loop around Pentire Point. Starting from the charming village of New Polzeath, you'll transition from soft, grassy trails to technical rocky sections as you head out onto the headland. While the route feels accessible, don't let the 113m ascent fool you; the undulating terrain and "three-level" hill grade provide a punchy workout for the legs. You’ll skirt the cliff edges with breathtaking views across Padstow Bay before climbing steadily toward the point, finally looping back through the inland tracks of the National Trust Pentireglaze farm. It's a classic Cornish trail run that balances raw sea-spray energy with smooth, flowing dirt tracks.
Pentire Point is a site of significant archaeological and geological interest, managed by the National Trust. As you run past the Rumps, keep an eye out for the remains of an Iron Age cliff castle, where ancient ramparts are still visible against the skyline. This area was also a major inspiration for the poet Laurence Binyon, who wrote "For the Fallen" while sitting on these very cliffs. The local ecosystem is equally rich; if you time your run during the shoulder seasons, you might spot grey seals in the coves below or peregrine falcons scouting the cliffs. It’s a landscape that feels timeless, offering runners a deep connection to the wild Atlantic heritage of North Cornwall.
