This 10km coastal loop offers a spirited challenge for runners looking to experience the rugged beauty of South East Cornwall. With 233 meters of ascent, it’s a hiller route that rewards your effort with breathtaking views across Looe Bay. The terrain is predominantly paved (90%), making it an excellent choice for a fast-paced road session or a steady endurance build, though a few unpaved sections through Penhale add a touch of authentic trail character. Expect a mix of quiet country lanes and residential streets as you climb out of the valley, passing through Millendreath where the salt air and steep inclines will truly test your aerobic capacity.
Looe itself is a historic fishing port steeped in maritime tradition, where the East and West rivers meet the English Channel. Running through this area connects you to a landscape shaped by centuries of seafaring history; Millendreath was once a bustling valley known for its local lime kilns, and the narrow lanes you'll navigate were originally carved by packhorses moving goods to the coast. Today, the area is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, providing a perfect backdrop for runners who appreciate a vertical challenge set against the timeless backdrop of the Cornish coastline and its hidden wooded valleys.
