Route Overview & Local Insights

The Launceston to Tregadillet loop offers runners a balanced 10.5km challenge through the heart of north Cornwall. Starting in the historic urban center, the route transitions seamlessly onto quiet country lanes where you can find your rhythm on 100% paved surfaces. The highlight—and the main test for your legs—is the punchy, steep ascent from Newmills up into Tregadillet. Once you’ve conquered the climb, you are rewarded with a long, gradual downhill stretch that allows for a fast finish back into Launceston. With 107m of total elevation, it’s a perfect route for those looking to build hill strength without sacrificing the smooth turnover of a road session.

Running in Launceston (locally known as 'Lanson') is like moving through a living museum. As the ancient capital of Cornwall, the town is dominated by its circular 13th-century Norman castle, which watches over you as you depart and return. The stretch through Tregadillet offers a quintessential Cornish village feel, surrounded by rolling pastoral farmland. Local runners often favor this loop for its low traffic and the stunning views of the Tamar Valley and nearby Dartmoor on the horizon. After your run, the town square provides plenty of "proper" Cornish spots to refuel with a well-earned coffee or pastry.
