This 9.5km loop offers an engaging mix of urban exploration and scenic parkland, making it a favorite for Bristol runners looking for variety without leaving the city. Starting through the residential heart of Northville, the route is entirely paved, providing a consistent surface for those focused on pace or steady distance work. While largely utilizing well-maintained pavements, the undisputed highlight is the stretch through the expansive Stoke Park Estate. With a moderate ascent of 55m and a hilling profile, runners will experience gentle undulations that provide a subtle challenge to the legs, particularly as you transition between the historic park boundaries and the suburban streets of Lockleaze.
Beyond the workout, this route carries you through one of Bristol’s most storied landscapes. As you run through Stoke Park, you’ll likely spot the iconic Yellow Dower House, a Grade II listed landmark perched on the hillside overlooking the M32. This area was once the grand estate of the Duke of Beaufort and remains a vital "green lung" for North Bristol. Running here offers a unique juxtaposition of the city’s industrial connectivity and its 18th-century heritage. Local runners often recommend this loop during the golden hour, as the elevation in Stoke Park provides sweeping views of the city skyline and the distant Purdown BT Tower, making the 100% paved effort feel like a true escape into the countryside.
