Conquer The Cloud is a punchy 4.9km loop that packs a significant 174m of ascent, making it a perfect short-form challenge for runners in Congleton. Starting from the Timbersbrook car park, you’ll tackle a steep, technical climb up Acorn Lane and through the rugged woodland sections of Bosley Cloud. The terrain underfoot is a classic mix of gritstone rocks, tangled roots, and natural steps, requiring focused footwork as you push toward the summit. Once the canopy opens up at the peak, you are rewarded with sweeping panoramic views across the Cheshire Plain, the Peak District, and even the Jodrell Bank Observatory on a clear day, before a fast, flowing descent back through Cloud Plantation.
Bosley Cloud, often referred to simply as "The Cloud," is a prominent hill that has served as a natural landmark for centuries, sitting right on the border between Cheshire and Staffordshire. This area is steeped in ancient history; the summit was once the site of a Bronze Age burial mound and later served as a vital lookout point. While the route feels wild and remote, it follows well-trodden paths that form part of the Gritstone Trail. After your run, locals recommend exploring the nearby Timbersbrook Picnic Area, which occupies the site of a former silk mill, offering a peaceful spot to cool down and appreciate the industrial heritage that once defined this rolling landscape.
