Route Overview & Local Insights

The Bath Skyline parkrun course offers a stunning 5.0km trail loop that trades the city’s famous cobblestones for sweeping vistas and brisk woodland air. Despite the modest 14m of total ascent, this route is delightfully technical, featuring a mix of grassy meadows, narrow forest paths, and uneven limestone trails. Because the course is 100% unpaved, it evolves with the seasons; in the summer, it's a fast, rolling track through wild gardens, while autumn and winter transform it into a muddy challenge where trail shoes are essential for navigating the slicker turns and tree roots.

Running high above the UNESCO World Heritage site of Bath, you are traversing an area steeped in Roman and Georgian history. The Skyline trails are managed by the National Trust and were originally designed to give 18th-century residents a way to view the city's architectural masterpieces, such as the Royal Crescent and Bath Abbey, from a pastoral perspective. As you run, keep an eye out for the historic Sham Castle—a decorative gothic screen built in 1762—and the Hidden Valley, a secluded local favorite that feels miles away from the bustling Roman Baths and thermal springs located just a few hundred feet below.
