Experience one of the most breathtaking coastal runs in Wales with this 7.8km circuit starting from the Newborough (Niwbwrch) Forest car park. This flat, paved route is a runner's dream, offering a seamless mix of pine-scented forest trails and dramatic seaside views along the Anglesey Coastal Path. The highlight is the crossing onto Llanddwyn Island, where you'll navigate a gentle loop surrounded by the Irish Sea. With only 22m of ascent, it’s a fast, rhythmic run perfect for maintaining a steady tempo while soaking in the panoramic vistas of the Eryri (Snowdonia) mountains across the Menai Strait.
Llanddwyn Island is steeped in Welsh folklore, named after St. Dwynwen, the Welsh patron saint of lovers. As you run past the iconic Tŵr Mawr lighthouse and the ruins of the 16th-century chapel, you’re traversing a site of immense historical significance and geological beauty—the island’s volcanic pillow lavas are world-renowned. Local tip: always consult the tide tables before setting off, as the island can become cut off from the mainland at high tide. The surrounding Newborough Warren is one of the finest sand dune systems in the UK, making this a truly unique sanctuary for both wildlife and distance runners.
