This 10.4km loop offers a quintessential Welsh trail running experience, blending sheltered woodland tracks with the exposed, panoramic beauty of the Cefn Bryn ridge. Starting with a gentle climb through the leafy canopy of Coed y Parc, the route opens up as you summit the "backbone of Gower." With 142m of ascent, the climb is substantial enough to test your lungs without being punishing, rewarding you with expansive views of the Bristol Channel and the Loughor Estuary. Runners should prepare for varied terrain; while the ridge provides firm footing on ancient tracks, the lower sections can become wonderfully boggy after rain, making trail shoes a necessity for tackling the mixed grass and dirt paths.
Cefn Bryn is steeped in local folklore and ancient history, most notably as the home of Arthur’s Stone (Maen Ceti), a Neolithic burial chamber that has stood on the ridge for five millennia. As you navigate the common land, you’ll likely share your path with the iconic Gower ponies and grazing sheep, adding to the rugged, pastoral charm of the landscape. This area was the UK’s first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and running here allows you to experience the geological transition from the limestone cliffs of the coast to the red sandstone heights that dominate the peninsula's interior.
