Experience one of the most breathtaking stretches of the Wales Coast Path on this 22.5km out-and-back journey from Rhossili to Port Eynon. This route is a pure trail runner's dream, consisting entirely of grassy paths and rugged coastal tracks with no pavement in sight. While the total ascent of 208m might seem modest, the terrain is characteristically "hilly" with constant undulations that will test your cadence and stamina. You’ll navigate dramatic limestone cliff tops, overlooking the sweeping golden sands of Mewslade and Fall Bay, before reaching the turnaround point at Port Eynon. The "untimed" zone in Port Eynon is a local secret, allowing you to refuel at a café or catch your breath without impacting your segment performance before the return leg back to Rhossili.
The Gower Peninsula holds the prestigious title of being the UK’s first ever Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and this specific route showcases exactly why. As you run, you’ll pass the iconic Worm's Head, a tidal island that has seen countless shipwrecks over the centuries. The village of Rhossili itself is steeped in maritime history, once a hub for local smuggling and limestone quarrying. In late summer, the area is vibrant with yellow gorse and purple heather, and if you keep an eye on the Atlantic swells below, it is not uncommon to spot grey seals or dolphins playing in the surf. This path isn’t just a run; it’s a journey through a landscape that has remained largely unchanged since the Iron Age, offering some of the most spectacular coastal vistas in the British Isles.
